Position: Food Security and Sovereignty Coordinator
Department: Prevention and Care Programs
Location: Minneapolis, Minnesota
Salary: $45,000 to $55,000, annually
Duration: Permanent, Full-time
Hours: Monday – Friday, 8am to 4pm (occasional evenings and weekends)
Reports to: Program Manager
For 35 years, the Indigenous Peoples Task Force has been at the forefront of closing the health equity gap for Native American and other marginalized communities impacted by HIV/AIDS across the Twin Cities and greater Minnesota. Based on Indigenous values and ways of knowing, our programs have grown to include services that promote integral role of and return to the centrality of first medicines, the use of cultural arts to support youth development, and programs that foster food security in ways that reconnect Indigenous and other peoples to the land and waters.
Job Summary
This position organizes and manages the food purchasing, storage, and inventory management for weekly mobile food distribution and community meal distribution. Works with internal teams and volunteers to plan and schedule weekly community meal in line with Indigenous and other nutrition guidelines. Builds upon, trains, and leads volunteers in food sanitary and safety practices.
Minimum Qualifications
Possesses a high school diploma and has a working knowledge of food systems, especially Indigenous food traditions and cultural practices. Possess a passion for food security and community engagement. Can communicate complex ideas and systems in simple, digestible ways that cut across audiences. Works well independently and collaboratively, in a team environment. Knowledgeable of and experience with Indigenous foods and healthy eating practices, and culturally practices. Experience collaborating and communicating with diverse audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, food science, agriculture, public health, community health, sociology, psychology, or any other closely related field(s).
- knowledgeable of and experience with Indigenous ways of knowing and culture
- Knowledge of the Food and nutrition systems
- Working knowledge of and experience with navigating the food and nutrition support systems
- Strong organizational and communication skills, written and verbal
- Certified to provide HIV counseling, testing, and referrals services in Minnesota
- Experience with group facilitation and dynamics
- Experience with social media networking and outreach
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and database management
- Must possess a valid driver license
- Must pass a criminal background check
Salary ranges between $45,000 to $55,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The Indigenous Peoples Task Force offers a generous benefits package.
