I am recently returned from the Salt River Water Walk. On the walk we were singing a song from the Wet'su'wet'en who are protecting Mother Earth from another pipeline ends with a chant "spread love like honey." Indeed, in everything we do, we are spreading love like honey.

HIV Outbreak and our Syringe Services Program

Minnesota announces an HIV outbreak among people who inject drugs here in the Twin Cities area we encourage all of our Syringe Service Program (SSP) clients to do everything in their power to avoid sharing needles and to get tested for HIV and HCV right away. IPTF located at 1335 East 23rd Street in Minneapolis provides tests daily from 9 – 4, and syringe exchange from 1-4 daily.

Given outbreak, it could not be more timely for IPTF to announce that we have been selected to participate in a three year national demonstration project designed to strengthen capacity of Syringe Services Programs (SSPs) throughout the U.S. With funding from CDC and technical assistance and coordination support from NASTAD, IPTF will work with seven other sites to develop best practice approaches to connect clients from SSPs to community based health and social services, develop strong approaches to monitoring and evaluating SSPs, and demonstrate the feasibility of a national IDU surveillance system to monitor drug use patterns, health consequences of IDU, and access to prevention and health services. Program orientation begins in early March, and we look forward to expanding our SSP services in the East Phillips neighborhood as soon as possible.
